DARREN HAYS 10.02.2018

Columbia Missouri is a growing college town with tons of cheap or free things to do if you know where to look. The town offers a wealth of fun activities for all age groups. No matter what your interests are Columbia probably has something for you! In this series I will provide information on some amazing places to visit in Columbia without breaking the bank.

Hiking & Biking Trails

Columbia, MO has a ton of options when it comes to trails. Whether you are looking for a place to take a leisurely mid-afternoon stroll, mountain bike through the woods or really want to test your ruggedness Columbia has something for you! Below is a list of a few of my favorites in the area.

  • Devils Ice Box
    • Rock Bridge, MO 65203
    • Excellent trail system with a large wooden walkways and bridges on parts of the trail. Great for both hiking and biking. Tons of caves and creeks to explore as well as a natural rock bridge.
  • MKT Nature and Fitness Trail
    • 300 S Providence Rd, Columbia, MO 65203
    • The MKT ranked second in the US in 2015 for best urban trail! Twisting through Columbia and eventually connecting to the 240 mile long Katy Trail the MKT is an awesome place to hike, run or ride!
  • Hominy Creek Trail
    • The Hominy Creek Trail connects the neighborhoods north of I-70 to the Columbia trail system. Great trail for biking and running. Connects with Stephens Lake Park.
  • Gans Creek Wild Area Trail
    • Rock Bridge, MO 65203
    • The Gans Creek Trail is one of my personal favorites. 7.7 miles of forest, bluffs, waterways and beautiful scenic overlooks. Great trail for all skill levels and dogs are welcome too!

These are a few of my favorite trails in the Columbia area for hiking and biking. Perfect places to explore nature or get some exercise!
